Consumer Narrative

Earlier this year, my husband and I were turned down for financing on a major purchase ( new car ), despite an excellent FICO score and excellent payment history. In researching the reason for the declination, I discovered that the high balance on our Bank of America credit card is reported as {$30000.00} while the credit limit is {$28000.00}. It seems this history of exceeding the credit limit hurt our application. This is actually the first time I have ever looked into the details of our credit report, as weve never had a problem before because we have not needed credit for a purchase in a very long time. I know that we have never exceeded our credit limit and in fact have never come close to maxing out a credit card. This account is over XXXX XXXX XXXX and I believe that somewhere along the line when information was being gathered or input into a new system a mistake was made. I first contacted the credit reporting companies and was told that this information came directly from the credit card company and that I must request them to change it. On XX/XX/XXXX I contacted BOA about this matter and they said they would look into it. I did not hear back by end of XXXX and called on XX/XX/XXXX, at which time I was told a letter had been sent saying that they had determined the high balance info was correct. I reported that I had not received the letter and I then asked them to provide the month and year of the high balance so I could verify it. At the time of that call, the customer service rep could not provide any details on how they researched the problem, how they determined the amount was correct, or provide me with the month and year of the high balance. I told them that I would need that info and was told it would be researched again and they would get back to me. On XX/XX/XXXX I received a letter explaining what a high balance is and telling me they completed their review of information available to them and consider the dispute resolved. They did not provide the date and month of the high balance or any other info on how they researched or why they believe the erroneous information is correct.
