I opened an online Citi savings account, but a few months later, I decided to close it. When I called to close the account, they informed me that because the account 's beneficiary is a trust, they could not close it over the phone and I have to send them a written request. I followed their instructions and sent in a written request, but the account remained open. When I called again XXXX weeks later, I was told that my signature didn't match, so the system wouldn't allow them to close the account. This is untrue because I don't recall ever signing any physical documents since everything was done online. Even if I have signed something, it would still be my signature. I believe this is just an excuse to make it difficult for me to close the account. Now, they are asking me to submit a notarized request to close the account.
