Today, XX/XX/XXXX I used my Citi Double Cash Back credit card at XXXX to make a purchase. An on screen messaged popped up asking me if I want to redeem points for a bill reduction at the rate of XXXX points for {$20.00} off. Thinking those were XXXX points I had accumulated I said yes only after to find out that those were Citi Thank You reward points. I tried undoing the transaction immediately with Citi but the representative told me there is nothing they can do since I was signed up to use rewards with participating merchants. I have never signed up for such program. Moreover the program offers a redemption rate far less than the rate of {$0.00} per point one can get for statement credit. I believe this is a predatory program aimed at taking advantage of customers who do not pay close attention when checking out at a store. The bank knows that this redemption rate is very disadvantageous to customers and this is why it enrolls customers into it without their knowledge hoping to take advantage.
