Consumer Narrative
About a year ago I received a promotional letter from Chase Bank which contains a few checks. It stated I can use the check for my discretion and the promotional interest rate will be 0 % until the end of statement on XX/XX/XXXX, after which it I will be charged the same interest rate as purchase. I understand it as by the end of XXXX XXXX the balance transfer will be treated as a purchase, and as purchase i will have the grace period of no interest if paid in full by the statement due date. On XX/XX/XXXX I even called and spoke with a account supervisor to confirm and was told that indeed the term is as I stated. I therefore, paid the whole balance off on XX/XX/XXXX ( the due date of the stayement ). However, I was still charged a interest fee of {$220.00}. I called Chase bank XXXX XXXX trying to have the charge reversed, but they refused and stated that balance transfer is not the same as purchase and there isno grace period. I believe the language used in the promotional letter is intentionally misleading! If balance transfer is not treated as purchase, they should stated that after the XXXX of XXXX statement ( XX/XX/XXXX ) a variable interest rate of .... will be accessed. But they did not state that, instead it stated after which it will be the same rate as purchase. Further more, the account supervisor should have me the right information when I called in XXXX of XXXX to confirm my understanding of the terms. I would also like to point out every other bank I have relationship with ( XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX ) treat the balance transfer same as purchase and therefore provide the grace period to the payment due date
