Consumer Narrative

On XX/XX/XXXX, while traveling in XXXX, XXXX, I stopped at XXXX XXXX ( a restaurant ) and got 2 fish tacos, a seafood soup and a lemonade. According to the menu it should have cost XXXX pesos ( which would be {$11.00} in XXXX dollars ). The merchant never provided a receipt. After returning home I noticed on XX/XX/XXXX that I had been charged {$1500.00} USD ( an overcharge of {$1500.00} USD ). I tried to resolve the issue directly with the merchant. I called the restaurant and asked for a receipt. They messaged me back that they didnt have one ( see attached document ). When I sent them a snippet of the {$1500.00} charge they stopped responding to me. I filed a dispute with my bank ( BofaA ) on XX/XX/XXXX and the bank requested I provide additional information. I sent an initial response, but before I was able to get all the documentation the bank requested, they rejected my claim for the first time on XX/XX/XXXX, without conducting a reasonable investigation. This was just under 2 days after I first filed my dispute. When I reached out on XX/XX/XXXX the bank agent admitted that they made a mistake by closing the dispute, re-opened it, and requested that I fax in the information that I have. I submitted what I had, including documentation of my attempts to resolve the issue with the merchant ( see attached document ). On XX/XX/XXXX the bank again rejected my claim, writing that I did not have a receipt. That same day I called the bank and requested documentation regarding the closure of my claim. The bank agent again confirmed that they didn't review the information that I sent and re-opened the claim for the third time. On XX/XX/XXXX the bank notified me that they had rejected my claim again. It is clear that the bank has mishandled the claim and has not completed a reasonable investigation. I do not believe that they filed a dispute/chargeback with the merchant 's bank and allowed them to to respond to my claim. Additionally, throughout the process, while my claims were still open, the bank failed to provide me with a provisional credit and remove the charge from my account. In my 22 years with BofA this is the only dispute I have filed. I am outraged that BofA would treat a loyal customer like this, without minimal investigation, especially with such a large sum of money.
