My wife and I have had a joint checking account at Citibank along with other financial products such as savings, a mortgage and a XXXX. My wife opened the XXXX about 10 years ago and she let Citibank manage the account. My wife started receiving calls sometime in summer XXXX from somebody who said the bank needs to see her passport copy. As she believed it was a scam, she kept ignoring the request. In the middle of XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX, the bank locked the checking account abruptly and we were not able to access to the account. When we reached out to the bank, the bank said it locked the account as we did not provide the bank with her passport copy. It took a week for the bank to unlock the account after we provided her passport copy, during which we missed a couple of scheduled payments resulting in late charges by an utility company in total {$50.00}. We requested the bank to reimburse the {$50.00}, but the bank has completely ignored our request so far. What the bank did to us is I believe unlawful and I would like to bring this to the attention to the regulatory body.
