Consumer Narrative
In XXXX went to CarHop in XXXX XXXX XXXX and was approved for a XXXX XXXX XXXX. I was in need of a car. Come to find out the car was unsafe to drive due to front end issued. CarHop XXXX warranty did not cover the parts. Ended up putting around {$2000.00} into the car. When I traded it in for an " upgrade '' they gave me {$100.00} trade in value. The car was in better condition than when I got it. So the " upgrade '' was a XXXX XXXX XXXX. Not even a month goes by and the motor is blown. I was not happy! I wanted to return the car for a running vehicle. I was told that, that wasn't an option. But since it was still under warranty they were going to replace the motor. I told XXXX that I wasn't happy about that because if the motor isn't replaced correctly more problems will happen. When motor was replaced the shop told me that the catalytic converter was bad. I told XXXX and she said CarHop will replace it. I told her it has to be a California approved converter, which cost around XXXX. XXXX weeks went by and she hadn't found XXXX. So I looked up recalls for XXXX XXXX. For that year and model the catalytic converter was a recall. Had to car towed to a XXXX dealership and they replaced it and they also replaced the seat belt mechanism that XXXX the airbags. After that and I finally got the car back after XXXX months there was a vibration when u put car in reverse. Told CarHop about they said there was nothing more the could do. I then reached put to corporate and they agreed to have it seen by XXXX. The vibration had nothing to do with the transmission. So I had to take it back to the shop that installed the motor. They looked it over and couldn't find the problem. I told CarHop about it. There was nothing they could do. I then asked to get another vehicle they said no. I then asked to be reimbursed for the Lyfts I had to take for XXXX months. They said no. I asked for a loaner car. No. I then asked for a refund they said no. What could I do I needed the car. They car kept getting worse. The XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and was broken down in XXXX. Luckily I have XXXX so had it towed home. So I replaced the XXXX XXXX XXXX. However, the XXXX XXXX was never the same. I took it to another mechanic and he looked it over told me that there was XXXX XXXX and it would cost XXXX $ to fix. So I paid for it. The XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX went off. I was happy thinking the car was fixed. However, after a week the XXXX XXXX XXXX came on and XXXX was worse. Took it back to shop he tighten up a XXXX XXXX and that worked until I got home and XXXX was back. I didn't know what else to do. I had a XXXX XXXX it kept saying that car was XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Now CarHop assured me that the vehicle was checked out prior to me buying it. I was told the check engine light was on due to a XXXX sensor. That was a lie. The XXXX XXXX was due to a XXXX XXXX. Those car come custom with a XXXX XXXX XXXX. However, when I spent XXXX $ for a XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Now if the car was checked over prior to me getting it they would of noticed it. So I contacted CarHop and asked for them to reduce the cost of the car. I was tired of putting more and more money into a car that kept having issues. I had to replace tires and needed front end work so there was another XXXX $ into it. So now I'm looking close to {$2000.00} put of pocket. Carhop refused to lower the price. The XXXX XXXX value on a XXXX XXXX XXXX was XXXX $ they were charging me XXXX XXXX What could I do if I voluntarily repo there goes my credit score. We'll another month goes by and after taking my XXXX to school, on the way home the cars started stalling. I made it home. I drove it to work that night and on the way home the XXXX increased greatly. It felt like the car was going to fall apart. I had had enough. I told CarHop that I wasn't paying for the car anymore and that I was bringing it back. I was asked what I wanted. I told them I was giving back the car and that it should not be held against me. After I asked for that communication ended. I took the car back and was told they were going to auction it off and whatever they get for it that amount would be deducted. We'll I owed a little over XXXX. My credit report says I owe XXXX. That tells me that the car didn't get auction off for much. I should not have to suffer for a vehicle that kept breaking down. I had put way too much money into it. It was priced way over from what it was worth. Now I'm trying to get a job with the XXXX. They do an extensive background check so I can get a public trust clarence and with that repo on my credit report I'm not going to get the job. I've asked CarHop through the XXXX to remove the repo from my credit report. I told them what was going to happen once the motor was replaced. And it happened. There was no way I was going to continue to pay XXXX $ a month for a car that doesn't run. Sorry buy I'm not. I kept them in the loop everytime. And everytime I was met with an attitude. I can't wait for XXXX years for that repo to come off my credit report. Come to find out CarHop buys salvaged cars and then resell them for XXXX times what they are worth. I asked repeatedly for another vehicle. I don't care if it's not in the warranty. They advertise that they sell reliable, dependable vehicles and thats not the case. I even asked for my XXXX back and was told that wasn't an option. I asked for a XXXX XXXX and would of continued paying on my loan but that wasn't possible because they didn't have the title to it. But it's right there on the lot. Right in the front row like it's available. I even threatened to sue them and was told that I would lose. I'm not alone regarding this issue. There are countless of people that CarHop has done this to. They prey on people that are in desperate need for vehicles and sell junk cars. They don't even let u pick out the vehicle u want they chose it for u. All I want is for them to do right thing. If they would of allowed me a better car they would still be getting their money. Instead they are ruining my credit and denying themselves of money. I've been trying to get a job from the government contractor for the XXXX for XXXX years and they finally want to interview me. I need that repo off my credit report. I've been unemployed for over a year. I really need the job. It's not my fault that they ignored everything I told them. I kept trying to get the car running right but I could no longer afford it. They don't care if they ruin people 's lives they don't care that they sell junk cars for way too much. They misrepresent when they advertise about selling reliable and dependable cars. I was taken for a fool and for what. To have my credit destroyed that I worked hard to get up. I was almost at a XXXX XXXX XXXX and now it's down to XXXX. That's not good business practices. I offered a reasonable compromise and was denied. Now I'm not going to get a job that I've been working for for XXXX years to get all because I fell for XXXX lies. They are screwing people all over the country. That's just wrong. They've been sued for selling unsafe vehicles. They should have their business license pulled do to unjust business practices. I feel so stupid for having faith that they would do the right thing. Again, they ignored everything I said. They employ people that have no idea how vehicles work. They should of gotten into another vehicle and took the financial burden for the XXXX. I don't know what more I can do. I'm going to try and file a complaint through XXXX XXXX Attorney General. Hopefully, they can do something. I don't understand how they can still be in business. Their business ethics are shady. I got played and so has thousands of other people. CarHop should be investigated. How can they get way with selling people salvaged cars. When I saw the car fax on the XXXX it looked as if that car was used as a drug runners car. The drove it back and forth from XXXX XXXX XXXX. That's it. Hmm seems suspicious to me. The amount they deducted from my loan tells me the car was worth maybe XXXX XXXX That's just wrong. They could have gotten me into a better vehicle for what I owed and that wasn't an option. That makes no sense. Instead of bringing in money they would rather ruin my life. Now I feel like giving up about trying to get the XXXX. I'm not going to pass the background check to get a XXXX. So there goes XXXX years of trying for nothing. I'm so upset about the treatment that CarHop continues to get away with. Even the XXXX that they sold me was unsafe because of the front end. Had a major oil leak. Then XXXX of the rear wheels almost come off while I was driving on the highway. Because whoever put tires on that car had used an impact wrench when they tightened down the lugs. XXXX of the XXXX XXXX had XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX when the tire almost came off. If that would of happened, people would have gotten hurt. Hopefully, I can get CarHop investigated and get that loan of my credit report. I would never treat anyone that underhanded. If u have any suggestions for me I would appreciate it.
