Consumer Narrative

I had a virtual Applecard with the XXXX XXXX issued by Goldman Sachs. I only used it to purchase a phone for my son XXXX years ago and after paying his phone off, I had a {$0.00} balance on that card. I kept the credit limit of almost {$3000.00} open. I had the card stored in my Apple XXXX and locked the card from any usage from my phone or devices in my house. Then this past XXXX, I get a message from Applecard saying I now had a balance of almost {$3000.00} where the card was maxed out down to the very last penny of my credit limit. I was shocked and quite upset since I did not use that card and its extremely suspicious that the charges were down to the very last penny of my available credit limit. That looks like someone used a bot to hack my Applecard and steal my available credit limit. I immediately called Goldman Sachs and told them what happened. It was put through their dispute team and I was told by everyone I talked to that I will not be held responsible for any unauthorized charges I did not make. The dispute with them went on for months where they removed the charges but then kept putting about {$800.00} back on me when these charges were unauthorized. I closed my Applecard where I did research on this and saw that this same exact thing happened to lots of people where their virtual Applecard got hacked and someone racked up their cards, maxing them out. They also said Goldman Sachs kept putting the charges back on them. Ive had many credit cards and Ive never had any of this happen to my accounts. They notify me of all purchases but I never got any notifications from Applecard. Some of the people posting about this problem said they went through CFPB about this very same problem with Applecard fraud and your organization resolved it for them. Hopefully you will be able to resolve this for me as well. Ive been plagued with Goldman Sachs putting the disputed unauthorized charges back on me when I didnt even use that card and actually had it locked from any use in my wallet app. The representatives I spoke to about this problem kept saying not to worry, I wont be held responsible for any unauthorized charges but they keep putting {$850.00} back on me. Its frustrating.
