When my husband passed away XX/XX/XXXX he owed Chase over {$5000.00}. I was worried that with the interest I would not be able to pay this amount off. I took a balance transfer from one of my credit cards at a lower interest rate to pay it off for {$5000.00} on XX/XX/XXXX. I found out the next day that I was not responsible for my husband 's debt. I called my credit card company first to stop the transaction since it had not yet posted and they said the transaction was already being processed and that I should call Chase. I called Chase and they agreed that I was not responsible for the debt and said that once the transaction was complete they would return it to my credit card company ( XXXX ). After several days passed and the money was not returned I called Chase, they asked me to submit a death certificate and a letter explaining why I wanted the money returned which I mailed to them. I called a week or so later and they confirmed they received the letter. I also called XXXX since the money was supposed to be returned to them, they opened a case and said they would follow also follow up with Chase. XXXX called back several weeks later, they asked if I had heard from Chase. They said they had not received the money and despite several attempts they had received no response from Chase but there was some sort of time limit and they still had some time. XXXX called again several more weeks later saying that they still had no response from Chase and asked if we could 3 way call them which we did. They told us that my request had been denied. We asked why and the person we talked to said we they could not tell us but I could submit another request.
