Prior to Mohela, my loans were handled through XXXX XXXX and most recently, XXXX. I have been struggling since the beginning of the loan start date which was around XXXX or XXXX of XXXX with my interest rate starting at XXXX percent. I fought through the years to get something reasonable and with Navient, I was granted a fixed rate of 2.5 % that I was told would not change through the life of the loan as long as there were no disruptions on my end with payments. I have paid at this interest rate for XXXX XXXX now and even pay a little more each month when I can ( i.e {$10.00}, {$5.00}, {$20.00} ) anything to get the number to go down since after XXXX XXXX of payments there does not seem to be a dent even put in these loans. Mohela has now taken over as of XX/XX/XXXX and in the email I was sent, it showed a statement saying my interest rate and benefits would not change and everything would stay the same. On XX/XX/XXXX ( now less than XXXX XXXX notice that everything is changing ) I checked my email to find a statement saying my rate reduction program is ending in XX/XX/XXXX and my interest rate is going up. I called them they told me it would be raised to 12.8 % with little or no options to work with me on keeping it the same. " You can apply for a XXXX XXXX program to get the rate down but it still won't come down to what you want '' " Only telling me I should find a place to refinance my loans. I can not even begin to afford a 12.8 % monthly payment let alone now I will be going back to square one with these loans haunting my life forever since I will just be paying money towards nothing but an interest rate. I would think if things were changing in my loan that XXXX would have let me know well ahead of time and certainly Mohela once they took over. Instead I was blindsided and felt like the XXXX XXXX XXXX I was scared shitless of these people when i had to call them. XXXX XXXX rep once told me to find a better paying job to afford my monthly payments when I was working as a full time server after graduating a University just to pay the astounding XXXX a month payment. Oh yes, a XXXX XXXX XXXX paying more than most people 's mortgages for education sounds really normal and fair. Mohela already feels like the predatory vultures I dealt with at XXXX XXXX and to be quite honest with all lenders as this private loan has hindered mine and I am sure thousands of other borrowers from getting ahead. I believe that my good standing on paying on time and then some should qualify me to keep the same interest rate, why would you jump it more than XXXX XXXX if I am literally not disrupting ANYTHING by just simply paying it off. It's private isn't it after all, it doesn't hurt anyone to keep my rate the same. If anything, my loans should be looked at more closely given the XXXX settlement XXXX XXXX XXXX went after back in XXXX to reimburse borrowers as I know I fit the criteria of the fraudulent manipulation they had on many of us. I have likely paid well above what I borrowed in these last XXXX XXXX and all I want to do is keep my same rate now if there is absolutely nothing to come from the settlement for me. My payments are not anything close to low and with the cost of living where I do, it's HARD to make ends meet let alone get ahead. My car is XXXX XXXX XXXX and I can barely get a normal offer for a used car yet I was handed a massive loan with no credit and nothing to my name at XXXX that has put a big damper on my adult life. My only regret in life is not being educated on private student loans. I would have NEVER done this to myself if I saw the headache ahead. Please help.
