On XX/XX/year>, I received an email from Capital One stating a credit card application had been declined. I also received emails from several credit monitoring services stating I had a new hard inquiry on my credit report. I have not applied for a new credit card. This is fraud. I attempted to open the decision letter from Capital One, but was given an error message stating my input information ( last XXXX ssn, name, zip code ) did not match what was previously provided -- perhaps the fraudster used an old zip code? Immediately, I went to my credit reports for XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX. The hard inquiry is listed on all three reports. I called XXXX first to dispute the hard inquiry. The representative was very helpful, and she recommended I file a report with ftc.gov as my next step -- that's what I'm doing here.
