Consumer Narrative
I used the bill pay service, which I have been doing for the last few years, to pay my real estate taxes. I completed the transaction as I have in the past at least five days prior to the deadline for the funds to arrive. I made my transaction on XX/XX/year>, online with the bill pay option. Usually when I make these payments they seem like they are being done as electronic transfers and go through the next day. I still made my arrangements five days in advance since I noticed last time I made a tax payment this way it did take a little longer, but really, as long as I am doing my part a week in advance, it shouldn't matter anyway. But this time it did. The bank asked if delivery on XX/XX/XXXX was fine and since everyone knows delivery date is not what matters, I was fine with that. Last Wednesday I received a letter from the XXXX XXXX XXXX Tax collector saying I owe {$75.00} more because my check was dated XX/XX/XXXX. I called the bank and received nothing but scripted answers, no one wanted to help and I was continually being placed on extended holds. After an hour I finally was told I would be getting a call back from the supervisor of the " manager '' I was speaking to. I was told it would be one to two business days and I am still waiting. In the meantime, I called the county to see if I could take care of this small date issue with them. I received the same treatment from them : multiple extended holds and in the end a promise of a return phone call from a supervisor. I have not gotten a call. I was told by XXXX at the XXXX XXXX XXXX Tax Collector 's office that before they were doing direct deposit but now they were actually writing checks out, this is impossible my check was written and delivered on the same day so something really fishy is going on and I do not owe them any more money. This is an ongoing problem with the customer service of big corporations in this country. Consumers are getting screwed and nickled and dimed by these companies constantly and no one is helping us. They are stealing money from consumers every day and nothing is being done about it. They have enough money do they really need to steal? And why is this being allowed to happen? Why is noone enforcing this?
