Five Lakes Law Group used deceptive business practices, promising to resolve my debts in a reasonable time limit. They charged me excessive advanced fees, misled me with their promises to settle debts with particular lenders, such as XXXX XXXX, and failed to inform me about my rights to funds that were left over in my escrow account. I enrolled in this program XX/XX/XXXX under the false pretext that it was better to go this route than apply for a consolidation loan to pay off my debt on my own. I specifically asked XXXX XXXX if I could terminate this service at any time and if I would be entitled to any excess funds in my escrow. He assured me that I could terminate anytime without any penalties. In the past year, I noticed that my deposit payments were increasing and that only XXXX lenders ( XXXX and XXXX XXXX ) had been contacted for settlement. I also noticed that an excessive amount of funds were going towards fees that had not been explained to me previous to signing the contract. I also noticed that settlement fees that were supposed to be paid to XXXX XXXX had been returned and not re-issued. There were XXXX payments paid, XXXX {$760.00} and XXXX {$780.00}. Both of those payments Failed on XX/XX/XXXX and the funds were not re-issued. I made deposits of {$9900.00} and was charged {$8400.00}. I have yet to get an explanation regarding the {$1500.00} that should be refunded back to me, since they double charged me with their settlement fees and only attempted to settle XXXX debts.
