I have filed this dispute about hard inquiries with Equifax many times but Equifax didn't do anything about it. Equifax is asking me to contact the companies but it is not my duty. When the consumer disputes something like hard inquiries Equifax must investigate it and provide a permissible purpose or remove it ( if they can't investigate it properly ). My previous dispute with Equifax is as follows : Dear Credit Bureau Representative : I recently reviewed a copy of my credit report and noticed the following information regarding inquiries to be in error. The Fair Credit Reporting Act states that the only permissible purpose for pulling a person 's credit report is ( XXXX ) a firm offer of credit, ( XXXX ) insurance, ( XXXX ) an application for employment, or ( XXXX ) a court order. The following inquiries are not related to XXXX of the allowable purposes, as I have reiterated in The Fair Credit Reporting Act.
