Consumer Narrative

AMEX allowed a fraudster to open an account in my name without my knowledge or authorization. Although I have AMEX credit cards, and AMEX has my address and phone number, I never received any notification of the new account. The savings account that was fraudulently opened had an address that I've never been associated with. Furthermore, AMEX allowed my existing XXXX XXXX account to be LINKED TO this new fraudulent AMEX account and for {$4500.00} in funds to be PULLED via ACH into this new account without my authorization. This linking happened WITHOUT any PLAID system verification and WITHOUT any micro deposits being placed into my chase account to verify ownership. This is a colossal security failure on the part of AMEX. When I finally discovered this fraud, AMEX shut down the fraudulent account and is now holding MY money hostage. I'm being made to jump through hoops to recover my funds. XXXX XXXX has closed my fraud claims insisting that based SOLELY on the name of AMEX account matching my chase bank account name, they do not consider it a fraudulent transaction. I've appealed this multiple times to no avail. With XXXX being uncooperative, I have been given no XXXX XXXX from AMEX besides simply being told to go back to XXXX and ask XXXX to request a recall. XXXX has told me they've finally requested a recall but AMEX claims they've received no such request. Im stuck between the two bank pointing fingers at each other. I need someone on the AMEX side to return the funds back to XXXX originating account. I have never signed any terms or conditions from AMEX agreeing to this broken process that holds my money hostage.
