Consumer Narrative
The repossession took place in XXXX. I had a XXXX XXXX XXXX. I purchased the vehicle in XXXX. The car ran, but had several issues whereas I had to take back and forth for major repairs to the dealership until XXXX. I reported these issues to Credit Acceptance. It would backfire, the odometer would reset on its own, I XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX it uphill hardly, and the alarm would go off while actively driving. It wouldn't start up efficiently in cold weather after all necessary precautions were taken. Toward the end of my ownership of the vehicle, the car would not maintain an oil change. The mechanic couldn't fill the XXXX XXXX due to XXXX XXXX from the entry point. He stated that it was too much pressure built up. Upon research, a lot of these problems were affiliated with cars of the same make and model and other models, but of a different year. My car year wasn't included in any recall notices, I thought. The constant repairs from tune-ups and other maintenance decreased my ability to pay. I began to become delinquent on my bills and it created a downward spiral on other bills and decisions, as well as I needed a car to go to work and take my daughter to school among other things. I made payment arrangements for the vehicle to catch up on the bill. The automobile lender, Credit Acceptance sent a XXXX XXXXXXXX to my place of employment to repossess my car. The recovery person hitched my vehicle and I complained and told him to stop. I explained that I had a payment arrangement that would cease the repossession. I called the company and confirmed. The recovery person told me to tell the agent, that he already had it hitched. When I advised this information, the agent stated that it wasn't anything that could be done. After repossession, I didn't receive any notices certified or regular mail stating any information regarding the car. The only information I received was approximately XXXX regarding the total amount that I owed. I tried to contact them via letter and ask for a settlement previously, however, correspondence was ignored. The vehicle was assigned a creditor, XXXX and XXXX in the amount of {$7300.00}. In late XXXX, I relocated to XXXX and I didn't hear any more information regarding the determination. I later found out that they issued a XXXX XXXX against me. I received a letter of garnishment in XXXX at my former place of employment and Credit Acceptance escalated the amount to over {$20000.00}. The car wasn't worth {$1000.00}. They refused to hear my argument regarding the breach of contract from the beginning of the sale regarding the XXXX, the recall, and the XXXX issues. I believe that I still have a lien on my name for this fraudulent car.
