Consumer Narrative

I received a letter from the Department of Education on XXXX stating that the DOE is discharging my federal student loans from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX due to findings of school misconduct. I called Navient on XXXX and explained the findings and I told the rep my student loans should be discharged and refunded. I was then told by XXXX, the representative at Navient, that she would put a core code on my account and an application would be sent out. XXXX explained that this application would determine school misconduct and if I were eligible. While I didn't agree with the fact that I had to fill out an application to determine eligibility because based on the findings I am eligible, I agreed to receiving the application. XXXX confirmed my mailing address, then I had asked about the refund process and she said there may be information about a refund in the packet but she wasn't sure. On XXXX I called Navient to check the ETA of the application since I had not received anything in my mail yet. I was told by the representative, XXXX, that the code wasn't placed on my account and that the XXXX department would determine if I was eligible or not and if I were, then Navient would send the application out, which seems like another eligibility process. So essentially Navient is telling me that I need to be approved twice to get my loans discharged and refunded? I told XXXX that the woman I spoke with on XXXX, XXXX, told me she put the code on my account, so for the last week I was under the impression that it was already being sent out. I told him that I was eligible based on the findings and that these loans are predatory loans and said that Navient just needs to discharge my loans and give me a full refund. He then said that he would place the code on my account today and I said I'd check back in a few days on the XXXX. I don't trust that XXXX put the code on my account based on all my other experiences with Navient. These Navient private loans are predatory. The company ( back then known as Sallie Mae ) clearly had a relationship with the XXXX XXXX and contributed to/conducted unethical tactics, preying on vulnerable low income individuals such as myself.
