Consumer Narrative
XX/XX/year> I phoned Discover card to request a credit balance I had on my account in the amount of {$140.00} be transferred to my bank account. I had no pending charges and didn't want this credit balance left in the account. Discover provides no option online to make this request or via their phone prompts. The agent didn't seem to be knowledgeable on how to proceed with my request and I was put on hold numerous times, with the call lasting just under XXXX minutes for a simple request. I was given the option of an ach transfer or check mailed. I selected ach. I receive the funds in my bank account on XX/XX/XXXX and was pleased. On XX/XX/XXXX I received my Discover Card statement and was very upset to notice a balance DUE of {$140.00} and seeing Discover specify this amount as an ACH credit funds reversal! I immediately phoned the company. The rep investigated it and stated Discover had issued me BOTH a check and ACH transfer for my credit request! So they applied the mistake which was entirely their fault back to my credit balance. This despite the fact I hadn't received nor cashed any check from Discover. Discover could have waited until they saw I received both the ACH and a check before attempting to reclaim any potential overpayment, instead they immediately applied {$140.00} charge to my account, funds which I DO NOT owe them! The agent on XX/XX/XXXX told me she would implement a stop payment and the mistaken amount due would be removed from my account in XXXX to XXXX days. I called Discover again XX/XX/XXXX to inquire as to confirm the stop payment was processed, was connected with a supervisor and told Discover has yet to implement the Stop Payment and the charge won't be reversed until they do. This despite XXXX stop payments requests had already been made, Discover continued to drag their feet holding my account hostage with the fraudulent charge the placed on it. As of this date, XX/XX/year>, the amount remains charged to my account. There is absolutely NO reason why Discover should think they have a right to charge me for their mistake. I DO NOT have an extra {$140.00} from them and do not owe them that amount. A company as large as Discover should have blocks in place which prevent the issuance of both an ach transfer and check issued for a credit balance. It's not the customers fault they don't and they have no right to expect me to pay them money back that I don't owe! Furthermore, when a customer calls and points this out to them they should take immediate action to rectify the situation instead of forcing a customer to jump hoops to correct this situation. Discover is attempting to defraud me, a customer of XXXX years who has always paid on time! Their actions are egregious and outrageous.
