Two years ago I retained Infinite Law group to consolidate credit card debt. They initially sent a mailer offering loans to consolidate debt, but when you respond to them they inform you that you are not eligible for a loan, but instead they will negotiate with your lender to reduce your debt. XXXX of XXXX, they rebranded to Derek Williams Law group. The service began to deteriorate and the fees escalated to over {$150.00} per month. It became more difficult to get them to answer my questions and they continued to do very little to help my situation resulting in a drop in my credit score of almost XXXX point. Previously, my score had remained fairly stable during the process. I called them in late XXXX of XXXX with a question and found that the office was closed during their stated business hours. Since they had a local Attorney in Connecticut, I called him to see what was going on. He ultimately told me that the XXXX XXXX law firm had a restraining order in several states and that he was resigning as their local representative. He suggested that I block the next withdrawal, which I did, and leave the agency. I sent an email requesting immediate termination of business and return of all funds held in escrow by XXXX XXXX. I did get XXXX to return my last deposit, however they had taken out their fee of XXXX leaving me {$360.00}. I have reported this company to the State of Connecticut Consumer Protection. They still have restraining orders in several states still in place. What chance do I have of recovering some of the exorbitant fees.
