Consumer Narrative

On XX/XX/2024 I contacted the XXXX XXXX in regards to a charge of around XXXX for my apartment which had a rent of XXXX. I was meant to move out on the XXXX, so the total should have been around XXXX. I sent them a follow up email on XX/XX/XXXX after receiving no response to the XXXX XXXX. Their response was that I did not give them a XXXX day notice to vacate the apartment. I wrote them back saying I spoke to them in person XXXX months prior asking to write down my notice of intent to vacate on XX/XX/XXXX, to which, at the time, they had said they accepted my intent to vacate and wrote it down. I wrote XXXX emails afterwards which were met with no response, XXXX on XX/XX/2024 and XXXX on XX/XX/2024. They were met with no response. I called the office XXXX times, and they did not pick up my phone, and when I called using my wifes phone they immediately picked up, which shows me bad will. On this call I explained the situation and I spoke with the person I had spoken to in person the day I gave them my intent to vacate. He confirmed that I had spoke with him and let them know I would be vacating on XX/XX/XXXX, and someone would be getting in touch with me via XXXX in regards to this situation. I had another correspondence with XXXX from the XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX in which he reiterated that I did owe over XXXX due to me apparently not notifying them of my intent to vacate, but they would bring it down to around XXXX I let him know I would not be able to afford this as I was out of a job at the time and I would like to pay the XXXX I owe. He responded to the email saying they are considering my over the phone correspondence as a notice to vacate, but they are still putting the move out date as XX/XX/XXXX. They decided to squeeze me out of every XXXX I had, and confusingly, verbal communication was acceptable only when they decided it was. If an in person intent to vacate was not acceptable and they lied to me and told me they would enter it in the system, why did they accept my over the phone intent to vacate after I had noticed the XXXX amount they were charging me? After this I sent another XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX which was ignored, then another on XX/XX/XXXX, to which I received a reply saying I was legally obligated to pay the over XXXX bill and I could set up a payment plan. Regardless of this, I still turned in my keys and all fobs and passes to the office on XX/XX/XXXX. I had fully vacated much before XX/XX/XXXX, but they were in possession of the keys on that date, and still kept the move out date as XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/2024 I received a call from a XXXX XXXX at a collections agency stating I owed a certain amount to the XXXX XXXX. When I tried explaining the situation very calmly, he told me he was not here to argue with me and I should learn the hard way and call back after. He proceeded to hang up the phone in my face while I was trying to respond. The call was recorded and I spoke to the XXXX regarding this who said he would look into it. This was a clear violation of the FDCPA, due to his abusive language and behavior. I was not even able to discuss options for the debt settlement with him.
