Hello, I sent information to dispute an amount owed to the collectors. I then disputed with the credit bureau. I received an alert that my credit score dropped XXXX XXXX after speaking with the collections company. I called and was told it was due to {$9.00} interest they reported which caused an increase in balance. This has never happened prior to this dispute with the credit bureau. The collection company on a recorded line stated this is because I disputed with the credit bureau and that because I did so, it prolongs my dispute and puts me in the back of the line, they then hung up the phone in my face. It is my right to dispute with them and the bureau. This is unfair and abusive practices under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. '' I am being punished for escalating the the issue. The FTC indicates that a furnisher is required to investigate any dispute forwarded to it by a credit reporting company and cant avoid that obligation by claiming a dispute is frivolous.i am being treated unfairly. Even minor inaccuracies on a credit report can lead to a consumer being denied a loan, housing, or a job. As a result, it is critical that consumers have a meaningful opportunity to correct errors or inaccuracies when they are identified.
