After speaking with the debt collector, Jefferson capital systems, they informed the debt I owe was from an account I had with XXXX that was closed out back in XXXX. I have been with XXXX which is XXXX now for over XXXX years and was never notified of any debt that I owe. This debt has just been reported on my credit report for the first time this year, ( XX/XX/XXXX ) without me receiving any notification. After speaking with Jefferson capital systems they informed me that they tried to notify me through email and mailing addresses that are not associated with me. I am also surprised to see that such an old debt, ( over XXXX years ) can still even be reported on my credit report? I thought there was a statute of limitations of XXXX years from the last reported missed payment date that a debt collector had to submit a debt to credit bureaus? I have contacted XXXX to dispute the debt and also Jefferson capital systems as well. They said they would dispute the debt. I am disappointed that Jefferson capital systems was able to report said debt to credit bureaus without any proper notifications and also with the age of the date of the debt. I work hard to keep my credit up and for me to take a hit like this without any proper notification is disappointing needless to say.
