On XX/XX/2024 I checked my email after being away for XXXX XXXX XXXX weekend and saw that I received an email from CapitalOne on XX/XX/2024 at XXXX stating that I had a payment due. I rarely use this card, so I only visit the CapitalOne site when I get notifications. When I went onto the the site at XXXX, I saw that my {$39.00} annual fee was due on XX/XX/2024 and because I missed the payment date by 14 hours, I was charged a late fee of {$25.00}. I immediately called CapitalOne customer service. I asked that since I am meticulous about not missing payments ( I am very on top of this in all of my accounting ) can that {$25.00} fee be forgiven? I also stated that I don't think that 5 days, only 2 of them business days with the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, is enough notice to expect someone to pay for an annual fee on a card that they don't use regularly with a {$0.00} balance. I was told that the fee could not be forgiven. I asked to speak with a manager, XXXX. XXXX was very kind, but she also let me know that the fee could not be forgiven. I told XXXX that I think that this is a sneaky business practice. {$25.00} may be a small amount of money, but how many people are being charged a {$25.00} late fee on an annual fee for a card they don't use often? 5 days ( only 2 business days ) is not enough notice. I have a near perfect credit score. I do not miss payments. She said she would send my complaint to supervisors. This seems unethical to me. I paid my bill and the fee to avoid further issues, but I hope to be refunded the {$25.00}. I also hope to make CapitalOne aware that this is an unfair business practice so that it doesn't continue to happen to others. Thank you for your time.
