Consumer Narrative
I am unable to access the " convert rewards '' portal on my account with Capital One Venture X rewards. This function allows the card-holder to transfer rewards points to various partner airlines ( at a significant " points-to-dollar '' savings to the user ). This transfer rate was a primary marketing function that induced this card-holder to obtain and use the Capital One Venture X card. There is a multi-factor authentication error occuring when this user ( and many others, as reported on various online forums ) which completely bars access to rewards conversion partners, making this " reward '' function essentially useless/inaccessible. I spent over an hour on the phone Capital One Rewards customer service today ( XXXX ) only to be told it is a " known issue '' that they are working on, but at this time no date of resolution can be set. A XXXX thread on this same issue from other users reports many card-holders have been blocked from points conversions for several months already with no resolution. In the meantime, I am unable to transfer points to a partner airlines to book an award flight that I would otherwise be able to book, if the website errors weren't present. Capital One acknowledges the multi-factor authentication errors are on their end, and not a user error. We, the cardholders, have done nothing wrong, and Capital One is now MONTHS into this situation without providing a resolution to this issue. They should not be allowed to advertise valuable rewards benefits to members as an inducement to open an accout and spend money on their cards but then effectively bar all access to those advertised benefits without compensation or successful resolution within a reasonable amount of time. I am requesting that CFPB escalate this issue with Capital One and be sure they fix this issue, or if it can not be fixed, provide reasonable compensation to its affected customers for their fraudulent inducement to use its card for rewards advertised but not delivered. Thank you.
