Items of complaint : I have had a XXXX home security monitoring system since XX/XX/XXXX. I have been paying a monthly payment of XXXX ( XXXX basic monitoring fee + XXXX equipment fee ). In XX/XX/XXXX, I chose to install the XXXX video camera. The video camera plus installation was XXXX per contract and monthly monitoring fee will increase from basic monitoring XXXX to smart monitoring XXXX per contract. I paid off the XXXX upfront on XX/XX/XXXX. Per the salesman, the door I chose was connected to my house 's electricity so no battery was involved and no need to recharge. However, XXXX installed a more expensive doorbell without telling me. XXXX installed a battery driven doorbell and it needed to be recharged. They also charged me a total of XXXX and took from my credit card XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX in addition to the XXXX I paid. I had NO knowledge of any of these. In XXXX, all of sudden, my doorbell stopped working due to the battery needing recharge. I was very puzzled since I thought my doorbell did not have a battery and did not need to recharge. I phoned XXXX. XXXX wanted me to recharge my doorbell myself. I tried but was unable to remove the screws they put in. I phoned them again to ask them to send someone to help. They said in order for them to send someone, I need to pay the balance on my account. I was so confused since I paid off the doorbell. I took a look at the bill and was furious. For the month of XXXX, I got charged XXXX. XXXX for the more expensive doorbell in addition to the XXXX I paid. XXXX. XXXX = XXXX ( my usual monthly basic home monitoring fee + equipment fee ) XXXX. XXXX the prorated the smart home monitoring fee ( XXXX ) for this month. I already paid the basic monitoring XXXX. WHY do I have to pay a prorated fee of XXXX for the same month?? I should just get charged XXXX = XXXX for the entire month. For the month of XXXX, I got charged XXXX. XXXX = XXXX ( my usual monthly basic home monitoring fee + equipment fee ) XXXX. XXXX smart home monitoring fee. They charged me both smart home monitoring fee and basic home monitoring fee for the same month?? I escalated this to the department of insurance of California and sent in all my evidence documents. However, on XX/XX/XXXX, I received a debt collection letter from XXXX XXXX stating that I have owed XXXX XXXX home XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX. I don't know why I owe them XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX.
