Consumer Narrative
On XX/XX/XXXXXXXX I paid what I thought to be a debt showing for {$980.00} that was settled for {$410.00} for XXXX XXXX which at the time of XXXX stated on my credit report, was the financial company handling the XXXX credit. The debt holder was originally XXXX XXXX which then was sold to Distrssed Asset Protfolio III, LLC which was then sold to Unifund CCR , LLC. I called Unifund CCR LLC on XX/XX/XXXX and explained that I had a date, dollar amount, and reference number for the supposed debt paid off. The representative explained that they would not give a reference number but would send out a letter saying that the debt had been paid off with the agreement. I never received such a letter which makes me believe that I was scammed. So I filed a dispute with Unifund CCR LLC, XXXX, and XXXX to have the item removed from my credit report. XXXX has come back twice now saying that the debt is accurate however, the rep from XXXX stated that they are only reaching out to Unifund CCR LLC to verify if the debt is accurate. They are not going back to the original owner XXXX XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX I called XXXX XXXX three times. On the 1st attempt to call I was transferred over to XXXX which just brought me to an automated 2-option selection screen. On the 2nd attempt, I was hung up on by the rep XXXX when I asked for a copy of the original contract. On the 3rd attempt, I was connected with a rep by the name of XXXX. She told me that XXXX XXXX could not and would not supply me with the original contract and that I needed to contact XXXX to get that. I knew this not to be true but I called XXXX and spoke with the rep XXXX and she said no that would be supplied by the bank because they do the financing. What is to stop these debt buyer companies or people from double dipping on debt that is owed or not owed? I have worked very hard to keep track of my credit report and just had to file a fraud report yesterday ( XX/XX/XXXX ) because someone opened a credit card in my name. This is happening more and more every day and people like me are getting hit.
