Consumer Narrative
I am a XXXX customer with an active account that is in good standing. A few months ago, I started receiving letters in the mail stating that I had a bill of {$1000.00}. I immediately logged into my XXXX account and saw that it had nothing to do with me, so I assumed it was a scam and ignored it. However, after receiving the same bill XXXX times, I called XXXX to ask them what it was about. They told me that they didn't know and that my normal account was fine. I asked them to remove it from my name, and they said they would. However, I continued to receive the same letter repeatedly, so I called XXXX again to ask what was happening. The person on the other end of the line informed me that the account had come back as accurate. When I asked why they hadn't contacted me, the person didn't know what to say. They then called the XXXX department, who advised them that it was a mistake made by a XXXX representative in store and that customer service needed to cancel the account. They assured me that it would be taken care of. However, by this time, the account had been linked to my XXXX and reported on my credit report as a missed payment. I asked the person on the phone to ensure that it was removed from my credit report, and they assured me that it would be done within XXXX business days. This was before XX/XX/2023. After a few days, I checked my credit report again and saw that it had been sent to a collection agency. After spending more hours on the phone with XXXX, I realized that the previous agent had closed the account but had not removed the balance, leaving me in a more serious problem, which was a collection. They advised me to file a dispute, but it did not help. Now, I am fed up with XXXX. I have not been able to obtain more credit because of this issue, and nobody at XXXX is taking it seriously. I don't understand why, if a XXXX representative made a mistake, it should be my responsibility. I am extremely upset and want to sue them for this. Additionally, they should erase this delinquency from all three credit agencies.
