I purchased an American Express giftcard in the amount of {$120.00} from my local XXXX. The card was activated by XXXX when I purchased it. The giftcard was then attempted to be used at multiple stores such as XXXX ( the same one i purchased the gift card from ) and XXXX XXXX. As well as multiple gas stations and on XXXX. At all of these locations the card was declined. I checked the balance online and saw that XXXX cents was taken out of my balance everytime we tried to use the card. I called customer service multiple times to which I was advised to just keep trying different locations until it works and repeatedly denied information as to what stores and sites the card would work at. I was then told the card was not eligible for a refund. I have now spent {$120.00} on a gift card that seemingly can not be used anywhere. All the vendor offered was to issue a replacement card which seems useless as the card is activated and working properly but just not accepted anywhere. This whole thing seems like a scam and I would like to receive compensation for at least the amount taken out of my account to purchase the gift card.
