Consumer Narrative
I received a letter from a law firm, that was is acting on behalf of a debt collector that is acting on behalf of my bank. The letter is an attempt to collect a debt. This is the FIRST time I have received a communication in the attempt to collect a debt from my bank. It appears to be weird as my XXXX ) bank did not attempt to collect a debt, XXXX ) the Collections Company has not sent any communications and XXXX ) the law firm letter was the first time I have seen this. Additionally, this is not showing on my credit report so I wonder if this is legitimate, especially if it is from the Bank. I have my Mortgage with them, a line of credit with them, both in good standing. I have a closed credit card with them that was closed ( paid in full ) in XXXX and it states as such on the credit report. The Bank has not information to give me as I do not have an account number to give them. I tried to log in to the Law Firm that is trying to collect the debt and I had to attest to all : - My account is not in dispute. - I am not a petitioner in any pending bankruptcy petition. - This account has not been discharged in a bankruptcy. - I have read the Privacy Statement and wish to continue with making a payment. My account is not in dispute. Because I am desputing the account through this CFPB, I assume I can not check this. I have to check all the boxes to access the account with the Law Firm. Seems unfair that I can not see what the account they have set up on my behalf in their site. I am going to respond to the letter with " this is my debt '' and " I want you to send me the name and address of the original creditor ''. and send the letter back. Being sent to XXXX ) collections and XXXX ) legal without prior notice doesn't seem right. Having no indications via the credit report that this is an attempt to collect a debt is also not right.
