Consumer Narrative

Greetings. Prior to the pandemic, I was owing {$160000.00} ( XXXX principal and {$15000.00} interest ) in my student loan. I made payment towards my loan during XXXX. The total amount paid totaled about {$78000.00}, leaving me with a balance of {$84000.00}. Due to recent financial difficulties I requested the money be refunded to me as prescribed by the cares act. This occurred sometime around XX/XX/2023 when I was still with Ed financial. The agent I spoke to confirmed my request and said she processed it. She informed me that it will take about 60 days to receive my check in the mail. Shortly after this, I noticed my loan amount had increased back to the previous amount of {$160000.00}, which makes sense as I had requested the payment originally made be refunded to me. On XX/XX/XXXX my loan servicer was then switched to XXXX. After the 60 days had elapsed and I had not received my check in the mail as expected, I reached out to XXXX who could not see that I made payments during COVID and that I had requested a refund either. All they could see on their end was that I owe {$160000.00} ( No mention of the {$78000.00} paid prior or refund request that was supposedly submitted ). Because they have no history of my previous payment, they are unable to make any refund request on my behalf. I called Ed financial, and they said they requested the refund, but they are unable to tell me the status of my refund request or what was delaying the check. I even logged into studentaid.gov website which show my previous payment of {$78000.00}, but make no mention of the refund request and reports a balance of {$160000.00} ( Which inaccurately insinuates that my pre pandemic total loan is XXXX + XXXX ). It seems like the money I paid towards my student loan has been erased because I have not received my check as requested and my loan balance has returned to the pre-payment amount and no one is able or willing to tell me where my money/ refund is. I keep getting the run around. XXXX is unable to help me because they do not have the full record and Ed financial is giving me the run around. I tried calling the department of Finance, but unable to get a hold of a human on the phone in order to discuss my situation. Can you please assist me by figuring out if my refund was actually and accurately submitted to the department of education. If it was, I need to figure out where and when my refund will be sent to me. If it was not, I need the application resubmitted or have my loan amount updated to {$84000.00} instead of {$160000.00} to reflect payment already made since they are not refunding my payment.
