M & T Bank has refused to close my M & T Tailored Business Checking despite multiple attempts. Per their website ( attached ), " non-interest bearing business accounts with a XXXX balance can be closed by calling the M & T Contact Center at XXXX, or by submitting a request through Online Banking. '' On XX/XX/23, I called the M & T Contact Center at XXXX to close my M & T Tailored Business Checking that has a {$0.00} balance. I was told by both a CSR and supervisor that they could not close business accounts via phone, and I would have to close in a branch or by mailing a letter to my local branch since I am out of town. On XX/XX/23, I also sent a secure message through Online Banking attempting to close my account, but was told " you spoke with an Telephone Banking Center representative about your concerns '' and was referred back to the M & T Telephone Banking Center. On XX/XX/23, I mailed a letter asking to close my account to the local branch the M & T Contact Center told me to send it to. On XX/XX/23, I called the local branch to confirm my account was closed and they told me they were unable to close the account from a letter and I would have to come into the branch to close it and there was nothing they could do while I'm unable to visit a branch.
