Consumer Narrative
After checking a copy of my consumer report, I noticed a clear violation of 15 U.S. Code 1681s2 - Responsibilities of furnishers of information to consumer reporting agencies. A person shall not furnish any information relating to a consumer to any consumer reporting agency if the person knows or has reasonable cause to believe that the information is inaccurate. ( B ) Reporting information after notice and confirmation of errorsA person shall not furnish information relating to a consumer to any consumer reporting agency if ( i ) the person has been notified by the consumer, at the address specified by the person for such notices, that specific information is inaccurate; and ( ii ) the information is, in fact, inaccurate. THE IRS CLEARLY DEFINES A CHARGE-OFF AS GROSS OR ORDINARY INCOME, DOES NOT GET REPORTED OR FURNISHED ON THE CONSUMER REPORT. INCOME DOES NOT GET REPORTED OR FURNISHED ON A CONSUMER REPORT BY DEFINITION. THE IRS CLEARLY SAYS A CANCELED DEBT OR CHARGE-OFF IS INCOME. THE REPORTING OF THIS ACCOUNT IS INACCURATE. IRS INSTRUCTIONS FOR DEBTOR. Instructions for Debtor You received this form because a federal government agency or an applicable financial entity ( a creditor ) has discharged ( canceled or forgiven ) a debt you owed, or because an identifiable event has occurred that either is or is deemed to be a discharge of a debt of {$600.00} or more. If a creditor has discharged a debt you owed, you are required to include the discharged amount in your income, even if it is less than {$600.00}, on the Other income line of your Form 1040 or 1040-SR. However, you may not have to include all of the canceled debt in your income.
