I had a student loan debt taken out for my daughter in XXXX. I believe it defaulted in XXXX. I have been making payments that were automatically deducted from my account. The payments were made to XXXX XXXX XXXX. Around XX/XX/XXXX, I received a letter from MRS Innovative solutions, another debt collector, stating that we had an account with XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and that a payment of {$14000.00} was due immediately. When I called to find out what was happening, I was told that the last payment made was in XXXX and that the debt was due in full now. I did not notice that XXXX XXXX XXXX had stopped deducting payment. Upon review of my bank statements, I found that the last deduction was on XX/XX/XXXX. I called XXXX XXXX to find out the reason the payments stopped coming out. Their response was that there was no active account under my name or my husbands name. I also asked MRS why the payments stopped and their response was that they had no information other than the debt was due in full. They also offered a settlement amount of around {$12000.00}. I am trying to find out why payments were stopped by XXXX XXXX that led to the debt being owed in full. When I spoke to the representative at MRS I explained that I don't have a problem paying the debt, but that I can't make a lump sum payment and shouldn't have to since I had been on a payment plan with XXXX XXXX and was taken off the plan without my knowledge. To be transparent, they did not mention anything about a lawsuit to recover the funds and when I asked of they would pursue one, the representative said that was not what they do, that they are here to help us resolve the debt. I stated to the representative that, as a point of reference, the statue of limitations is 6 years in New York State.
