We have had the Capital One Venture card for over 5 years and assumed they would have our backs when we became victims of fraud. We received an alert one day to approve a purchase that we didn't make & when logging into our account to follow up we had over {$4000.00} of fraudulent charges. We called right away, they cancelled our card, assured us they would look into it & the money would be reimbursed to our account. A few days later we received a letter that their investigation didn't prove to be fraud, they believed we made the purchases & all of the charges were put back on our account. The type of purchases, locations & time of day where not normal for us and it seemed clear as day this wasn't us so we are shocked that Capital One said it was their final decision and we are responsible. All of the fraud was on my husbands card and he had it in his possession when this happened. He hasn't been using the card but made recent online purchases through XXXX XXXX this is when the fraud started. There was an attempt on his mothers card too ( she is an authorized user ), she lives in the XXXX but the attempted purchase was in the US, but we caught it in time & it was declined. Capital One is claiming the fraudsters where able to use the chip and that is why they declined our fraud claim. How is this possible?? I feel so frustrated & helpless!
