I started receiving emails from Capital One about a credit card account in early XXXX. I did not sign up for a credit card. I do not have an account with Capital One. I checked with my bank and credit reporting services to see if there might be a fraudulent use of my info. There was no fraudulent use of my personal info as far as we could tell. I called Capital One. We determined that someone with my same name, but a different middle name, had opened an account. They must have incorrectly entered their email address because all of the emails from Capital One are coming to my email ( XXXX ). On my first call with Capital One, which lasted more than an hour, I was bumped between departments 6 times until I was told that the issue was resolved and I would no longer receive these account emails. A few days later, I received more emails. These emails included login reset instructions, so I am worried about their security protocols and my information being exposed. I called Capital One again and was again on the phone for more than an hour being passed between departments. I was given to a supervisor. Again, I was told that the issue was resolved and I would no longer receive any emails. The emails continued. I called a third time, and was one the phone with a number of departments for 90 minutes. I spoke with another supervisor and was assured that the emails would stop. The emails are continuing and I am receiving emails about payments due, changes to credit reports, and account login changes. I have attached a sample of the emails I have received. I have received 51 emails in total.
