About a week ago I checked my credit report and noticed a new account in collections. I immediately called the debt collection agency and found out the origin of this debt. The debt was several years old and had been on an automatic payment plan ( the original payment plan was set up through XXXX ) It was my understanding that the automatic payments continued until the full amount was paid off. The bank card that the payments out of was my at the time boyfriend 's, and we split up, so I did not know the payments had stopped. I never received any notice about this debt or I would have taken care of it immediately. As soon as I saw this on my credit report I called the company and paid the amount in full. My concern is that this will still have a negative impact on my credit score and I have been working very diligently on improving my score, so for a new collection to be added for a debt that I didn't know existed is very frustrating.
