I have multiple accounts that should not longer be reporting to the credit bureaus because they have been " charged off as bad debt '' and I have already received 1099-C Cancellation of Debt forms from each and every single creditor reporting that I owe money on the closed accounts. I believe it is against the spirit of the law, and possible the US Code itself, to have a debt that is no longer legally enforceable ( due to passing the Statute of limitations ), have the debt cancelled, reported to the IRS, and taxed to me, and then continue to report it monthly as an open debt, or in collections. Reporting that the debt was cancelled and booking the loss, yet continuing to try to collect the debt is wrong.
