Re : IRS 1099-C Form Received for XXXX Account in Dispute I contacted the three major bureaus, XXXX, Experian, and XXXX, and they did not respond for more than 45 days, despite three attempts to contact them via mail. XXXX sent me the last letter on XX/XX/XXXX, and I haven't heard from XXXX or XXXX since. XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ) agreed to let me settle my account for {$5000.00}. I received a 1099-C for Debt Cancellation for the remaining {$10000.00} balance, which will be reported as additional income on my XXXX federal income tax return. This XXXX account is currently listed as " XXXX '' on Experian but " Derogatory '' on XXXX and XXXX. When I sent my dispute letters to these three major bureaus, I attached the settlement documents I had with XXXX, and it appears that they just trashed it. I am aware that federal law requires these three major bureaus to respond within thirty ( 30 ) days, but they have not. I understand that the Federal Trade Commission investigates credit reporting agencies that fail to comply with these federal regulations ( see 15 USC 41, et seq. ). I am maintaining a careful record of my communications with them in order to file a complaint with you. I tried to remind them that, as in Wenger v. Trans Union Corp., No. 95-6445 ( C.D.Cal.Nov 14,1995 ), they could be held accountable for willful non - compliance.
