I am submitting this CFPB complaint to dispute the collection account that is currently appearing on my credit report. I am requesting the removal of this account from my credit file under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ) section 605b. This collection account resulted due to my Identity being stolen, and as such, it should not be reported on my credit file. The FCRA states that " consumer reporting agencies must block the reporting of information that is the result of identity theft or fraud. '' ( 15 U.S.C. 1681c-2 ). I did not authorize or make any transactions that would have resulted in this collection account being reported. Therefore, I believe this account is a result of identity theft or fraud. I have taken steps to resolve this matter with the creditor directly, and they have acknowledged that the account is fraudulent. They have provided me with documentation stating that the account has been closed and that they will not pursue collection on this debt.
