Several weeks ago, when I check my credit score from Equifax, I find that XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, IA XXXX, Phone : ( XXXX ) XXXX claimed that I have an unpaid balance of XXXX $ ( original amount ) which now compounded to XXXX dollars in 2 months. First, I am not responsible for the amount. It is reported that there is an return check from me paid to XXXX XXXX XXXX in XX/XX/2022, which later XXXX XXXX XXXX gave the debt to XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX for collection. I never heard of XXXX XXXX XXXX and never had any business with the company. I suspect that my check was paid by the person who stole my checkbook in Iowa, which I already reported to the police ( attachment is the report ) and later I also filed a complaint with CFPB about XXXX doing nothing to protect my account and information. Second, XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX have never contacted me about the debt ( no phones, no letter and no emails or in-person ), I first know about this debt via Equifax, which hurt my credit score a lot during the time I want to apply for a mortgage. Third, I filed a dispute in Equifax which they carried out an investigation by contacting the XXXX XXXX XXXX in which Equifax said that the XXXX XXXX XXXX said the debt was mine. During the whole process, the collection agent never contact me and Equifax believed them. Fourth, the whole case did not make any common sense. Equifax knew that I pay off my credit card every month for a the whole time I have credit history, so why I will not pay this XXXX $ and let it be handled by a debt collector and why debt collector was willing to spend time and resources to collect XXXX XXXX Those things are very suspicious and Equifax never truly investigate the problem.
