Consumer Narrative

I called Equifax on XXXX XXXX, XXXX about information I got from XXXX XXXX concerning my credit rating. It had gone down. XXXX noted the reasons. I strongly disagreed. Equifax agent said all he could do is send me info about their method. The Equifax statement arrived a few days ago. ( Today is XXXX. XXXX. ) It listed some reasons for the rating and noted info about how to file a dispute, which wasn't entirely accurate. Long story. In any case, they provide only limited links, which do not allow dispute of their conclusions or ratings. The Equifax notice cites the following reasons for their rating to which I'll respond, one by one : CODE 43 : LACK OF SUFFICIENT CREDIT HISTORY ON BANKCARD OR REVOLVING ACCOUNTS : I've had my XXXX Card for several years and pay it off every month. I've never been late. I've had other cards over the years as well. I'm XXXX XXXX XXXX! I have plenty of credit history. CODE 8 : YOU HAVE EITHER VERY FEW LOANS OR TOO MANY LOANS WITH RECENT DELIQUENCIES. First, no delinquencies and no loans. I assume they're saying I'm not in enough debt. That's insane rationale. I've had all kinds of loans over my lifetime, all paid off. But I don't get credit for that while others who carry a big debt load do? That's nuts. CODE 65 : LACK OF SUFFICIENT RELEVANT FIRST MORTGAGE ACCOUNT INFORMATION. Gads, do they do their homework? My spouse and I have owned three houses since XXXX. We're old. We paid them off. Seniors do that, if they're lucky. Getting downgraded for that or consequently denied credit for that is age discrimination. CODE 4 : THE BALANCES ON YOUR ACCOUNTS ARE TOO HIGH COMPARED TO LOAN AMOUNTS. There are no loans. Period. Are they referring to our XXXX XXXX? We pay for as much as we can with that card because XXXX gives us 2 % cash back. We pay off that card every month. We have never gone over our self-imposed credit limit, which could be higher if we wanted it to be. I don't understand why I wouldn't have the highest rating. All bills paid promptly, good monthly income, good assets ... my husband and I are so much better off than many of our contemporaries. But Equifax has got it wrong, I want the record corrected.
