Consumer Narrative
I have a capital one credit card. Capital One has been self serving. My interest has gone up to XXXX %. And I have a credit score over 700. I had set up auto pay for my account. I thought the auto pay would cover the minimum. Unfortunately, Capital One allows auto pay to be less than the minimum and I wasn't aware. My payment for XXXX drafted for less than the amount due. On top of sky high interest capital one charged me a {$40.00} dollar late fee. I did not know my payment drafted for less than the minimum amount due until I looked at the mobile app. I called capital one to explain that I was not aware the payment was drafted for less than the amount due. The agents were uncaring and did not offer to rebate the late fee. I've been a customer of capital one for many years. Why would they not be understanding and rebate the late fee? Especially when capital one is charging me sky high interest and I have a credit score that does not warrant this type of interest? Also capital one has told me different things in regard to credit reporting. I was told they don't report late to the credit bureaus unless a person is 30 days past due. Now tonight I spoke with an agent who said it's actually 30 days past the cycle date. So I'm confused on why the answers have shifted. I will be closing down this card once it is paid off. Capital one is self serving. I've decided to simply pay myself. And to leave credit alone. These cards are death traps. Capital one does not offer enough credit for anyone to really do anything with anyhow. They offer a few thousand and hit the person up with sky high interest and fees and it's not even worth it. For the paltry amount of the credit they have given me I might as well just keep an emergency fund. I understand I will take a hit to my credit when I shut down these cards because they are open trade lines but you know... to XXXX with with credit bureaus. If I have to be in debt to keep a good score I don't want a good score.
