Equifax is in the regular business of assuming the role of a credit reporting agency and in the regular business of collecting the personal information of consumers. Equifax is bound by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Privacy Act of 1974 and state laws requiring the safekeeping of the personal information of consumers. However, in MayXX/XX/XXXX, Equifax became aware of a data breach where over 148 million consumers ' information was stolen by unknown perpetrators, of which I was affected. Equifax did not adequately inform me that my information was stolen. It wasn't until XXXX that I learned of an extended claims period. Between XXXX to present, Equifax has failed to report accurate information on my credit report. I have been denied credit no less than 10 times due to Equifax misreporting my personal credit information. I have had fraudulent accounts reporting on my credit report. I have also suffered the same through Equifax affiliate credit agencies by being denied apartment leases, employment, higher car loan rates, and denied other open ended consumer credit accounts. I still have inaccurate information reporting on my credit report that Equifax refuses to delete despite numerous complaints made by me to the CFPB. Equifax consistently and negligently continues to violate my federally protected rights and state rights as a California resident. Equifax should not be allowed to do business in the US. I have spent and lost hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to repair my credit, protect my personal information and credit, and prevent my information from being stolen in the future.
