Consumer Narrative
Dear Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, I am writing to file a complaint against Equifax credit reporting agency for violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ) and other consumer laws. Specifically, Equifax has failed to report my personal and account information with accuracy and fairness, in violation of 15 U.S.C. 1681e ( b ). Additionally, Equifax has violated my privacy rights by allowing promotional and account review inquiries to my account without my explicit written or oral consent, in violation of 15 U.S.C. 1681a ( d ). These violations have hindered my ability to utilize the banking system fairly and have stifled my financial success. I request that Equifax be held accountable for these violations and that immediate action be taken to correct the inaccuracies in my credit report. In particular, I request that Equifax correct the following inaccuracies in my credit report : Inaccurate credit card usage Incorrect number of collections accounts Incorrect number of accounts 60 days late or more with a derogatory indicator Incorrect number of accounts with missed payments or derogatory indicator Incorrect ratio of revolving balances to my credit limits I would like to cite the following legal citations violated by Equifax in support of my complaint : FCRA, 15 U.S.C. 1681a ( d ), which places the burden of proof on the credit reporting agency to provide the most accurate information. FCRA, 15 U.S.C. 1681i, which affords consumers the right to dispute inaccurate or incomplete information in their credit reports. FCRA, 15 U.S.C. 1681a ( e ), which requires credit reporting agencies to follow reasonable procedures to assure maximum possible accuracy of the information concerning the individual about whom the report relates. As a result of these violations, I am requesting the following actions from Equifax an immediate update to the score factors in my credit report to reflect the accuracy of the report, as required by law. I request that Equifax delete multiple outdated repetitive addresses reported in my credit report ( some XXXX - XXXX XXXX XXXX ) and only indicate my current legal address ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ). Additionally, I request the immediate deletion of all unauthorized promotional inquiries, account review inquiries, and any third-party supplemental information that violates my privacy rights. I also request that Equifax comply with the FCRA, which affords consumers the right to dispute inaccurate or incomplete information in their credit reports. Pursuant to 15 U.S.C. 1681a ( d ), the burden of proof is on the credit reporting agency to provide the most accurate information.
