In XXXX of 2022, somebody fraudulently applied for a XX/XX/XXXXXXXX credit card using my name and social security number, resulting in a hard inquiry on XX/XX/XXXX to each of the credit reporting agencies ( XXXX, XXXX, Equifax ). I contacted XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX, they agreed the credit card application was fraudulent and cancelled it. I filed disputes with the credit reporting agencies to remove the hard inquiry. XXXX agreed this is identity theft and removed the hard inquiry from my credit report. Equifax, however, said 'this is a factual statement of access ', and refused to remove the fraudulent inquiry from my credit report. ( XXXX asked me to mail in a written dispute ; I haven't yet heard back. )
