Consumer Narrative
Equifax online services do not allow the caller reasonable access to a representative without excessive barriers including having a credit report available in front of the caller to verify loans etc. Most individuals do not have a current copy of their Equifax credit reports at their fingertips. While I fully understand the need for high security especially in light of their previous breach, it is not acceptable to spend 30 minutes on a phone tree trying to speak to customer service in order to fix one 's on line account to unfreeze their account when there is an issue with a ( correct ) password. Certain banks require all 3 credit bureau reports to approve lending applications, others do not. When I told a representative at XXXX XXXX that it was Equifax that I couldn't get a hold of, she immediately understood stating " yes they can be very difficult ''. If this is the case Equifax 's poor customer service may be the reason lenders are no longer using or relying on Equifax reports. I have not had any issues with XXXX or XXXX to date. This is punitive to U.S. consumers, in that it results in severe delay in proceeding with important financial transaction including mortgages, new credit card applications, and other necessary functions. It is likely this is happening with millions of other U.S. citizens with equal frustration. It should NOT be allowed to occur when it has such a large impact on personal financial dealings.
