I received a Vanilla Visa credit card in the amount of {$500.00} as a gift from coworkers. The package did not appear to have been tampered with ( it was intact and the card secure in the package ). When I attempted to use the card in a retail store & at a a restaurant ( XXXX and XXXX ) I received error messages, unable to process. On closer inspection, I realized there are no numbers on the front of the card other than the expiration date, and no XXXX number on the back of the card. The card is unusable. It appears that the numbers may have been rubbed off, or never applied to the card, in either case the defect would have to have occurred prior to the package being sealed. I called the customer service number on the back of the card : XXXX, & was informed they can only assist me if the original purchase receipt can be submitted with my complaint. I provided the receipt and the customer service agent did verify that the card has a balance of {$500.00}. I inquired if they could issue a replacement card but they will not.
