FIRST ISSUE W/AMEX. Complaint is against AMEX. I am having XXXX possibly related problems w/this company. This is the first. About XXXX or XXXX years ago, I cancelled all my AMEX cards. I think I had XXXX, but I know I had at least XXXX. XXXX I never used. Immediately prior to trying to cancel XXXX of the cards, I had received a bill from AMEX for {$95.00}, which was described as the annual fee. At that time, I called them, informing them I wanted to cancel the card and asked to have the {$95.00} fee waived. I also told them the fee was the reason I was cancelling. They refused to cancel the card until I paid the {$95.00}, claiming it had already been billed, which is true, but this was the first billing for the fee, and I no longer wanted to pay the fee or use the card. I called several times with the same result and eventually gave up. I did not pay the {$95.00} either. What I did do was cut up and throw away that card and my other AMEX cards, vowing to never deal w/the company again. There was no balance other than the {$95.00} fee owed, and all balances on all cards were current and fully paid ( and always were ). I have used NONE of the AMEX cards I had since then b/c A ) I was so annoyed w/the company, and B ) I destroyed my cards ( I can't even tell you the account numbers anymore ). As recently as XXXX XXXX, they apparently billed me for this {$95.00}. I assume they still are, but since I'm in the process of moving, I haven't received a more recent bill. Obviously, I don't want someone else in the future getting my account number on this card which AMEX refuses to close because I refuse to pay their revolving annual fee for a card I tried to cancel and have not used in that time. My SECOND problem w/AMEX may or may not be related. I will submit it as a separate issue as it is a bit strange.
