This is what I've sent to South State- I know that these fees are excessive and posted in an order to assure that they are able to charge as many fees as possible. Hello, since the beginning of 2022 I have been charged {$1900.00} in overdraft fees, {$680.00} just since XXXX of 2022. I am writing this because I am trying to regain control of my budget, and that has become impossible due to the amount of overdraft fees I have accrued in my account. These are uncertain and trying times for all of us and I wish to urge you to reconsider these fees. It is such a high amount and myself and my spouse have held account both separate and joint with Southstate for quite some time, we remain loyal and recommend others to join your bank as well. I know this is a large chunk of the revenue that this bank collects- however I do humbly ask that you please refund these charges. " Overdraft fees are largely incurred by only a small number of financially vulnerable consumers : Just XXXX percent of account holders pay XXXX percent of overdraft and NSF fees.Because overdraft fees are flat and fixedthey are the same whether an account is overdrawn by {$10.00} or $ XXXX card overdrafts bear the most disproportionate penalty because they tend to be the smallest transactions '' The bank responded to speak to my local branch, to which I already have- and they were no help. I have regular deposits to this account.In addition to this several of these fees were charged due to erroneously bank drafts. I spoke with a bank rep over the phone who reported that the amount of fees were " excessive ''
