Sunrise Credit services sent me a letter, so I called and asked them what this is about. They told me it was for XXXX XXXX XXXX usage from years ago for an address I have not lived at in years and had closed the account for ( when I did leave ) and the debt amount was for {$800.00}. I had actually already disputed this same exact debt with another collection agency and with XXXX XXXX from XX/XX/2021- XX/XX/2021 and got in contact with XXXX XXXX, and informed them that I do not live there. The debt was removed after the dispute was reviewed ( I never saw original documentation from any debt collectors for this last year, the information I received was all over the phone ). The woman I spoke to on a recorded call today from a new debt collector ( Sunrise Credit ) was incredibly rude and condescending, to the point that I even said to her " You're speaking like this on a recorded line ''. There were so many points in the call where she was condescending or manipulative, but she blamed her attitude on the fact that she's a " New Yorker '' and then when I told her she was condescending, and that is not an excuse she said : " that's just how I talk ''. She also said at one point : " so you feel like this is condescending, but we are a collection agency '' and then proceeded to put words in my mouth and continue to further manipulate and tell me how to feel. I also told her I have gone through this process already last year and she said " well if you did, then you wouldn't be in this situation right now '' and I asked her why she was accusing me of not doing what I said I did. It was honestly baffling. She also said right after that : " and this is why it will be back on your credit ''. For This is not on my credit report, it was removed last year after my original dispute, so she was either implying or threatening that it will be put BACK on my credit report, even after I told her I have previously and successfully disputed it, and that I am going to call con XXXX again to clear it up. I told her one point, given the line of work she is in, even if this is " just how she talks '', she needs to fix speaking to people that way, since she works for a debt collector and a code of ethics needs to be followed. I thought she would get better about how she was speaking, but she only got worse. She also said that " anyone can claim they didn't live at an address '' ( that's not at all what I said or claimed ). and she continued to put words in my mouth. Because she was talking over me more than listening she wasn't getting information that I was giving her from my prior dispute last year. She would ask me to tell her how she was condescending, and then interrupt me as I was telling her. I even told her I am at work, and need to hang up but I haven't been able to consistently speak because she's talking over me. I even told her that she was breaking FDCPA laws put in place to protect consumers from having to deal with rude debt collectors. I finally became quiet, because I was running out of breath trying to speak while she was talking over me. And because I have a pulmonary embolism, Its hard to keep trying to speak when I have to take deep breaths in between sentences. Once I did get quiet, she said she would notate the account and officially " apologized '' ( she made sure to ask if the call was still being recorded before apologizing ). I was exhausted by that point, because I was constantly trying to speak after she would make a manipulative or condescending statement, so I said " thanks, ill contact them '' and hung up. She didn't offer to send me the original documentation, she didn't offer to validify the debt. She just told me to contact XXXX XXXX again ( which I am going to ). So she was speaking to me this way, and as if this is a valid debt, before every validating it. I have the recording on my end as well. The " upload attachment '' link isn't working because the recording file is either too large to upload or it is not a compatible file type, so I am going to save it locally in case they want to listen to the call. Its honestly baffling how debt collectors are acting in NY.
